The House at 19 Rue Grand Pont The House

The terraced house is 19th Century, and has many original features.  It has gas-fired water- and central heating. There are three bedrooms; the large main bedroom has a 5ft bed, and the other two have a 4'6 and single bed respectively.  The bathroom has a bath, bidet and washbasin, and there is a separate toilet.

The kitchen is well-equipped for cooking and dining, with gas/electric cooker, microwave oven, mini oven-grill, and fridge/freezer.  There is an automatic washing machine, and an ironing board, iron and hair dryer.   The large living room has a CD/radio/cassette player.

The garden is enclosed, with an area for sitting out with table and chairs and a brick-built barbecue, plus lawn.  Two mountain bikes are kept at the house, and may be used by tenants; additional bicycles can be hired locally during the summer.

The house sleeps five comfortably, at most six.  If your party is any larger you must discuss this with us, as more than six will only be tolerated in exceptional circumstances, or see our other, larger, property at Le Torp Mesnil.

The Village: Vittefleur and the Vallee de la Durdent

Vittefleur is a quiet village in the Pays de Caux, a very picturesque part of Normandy.  Situated on the River Durdent, its history goes back to medieval times when it was a port.  There are several mills along the course of the river, and locally there is extensive market gardening.  The countryside is ideal for walking, and trout fishing is available on the Durdent.  It is 40 minutes' drive from Dieppe, an hour from Le Havre, and 2½ hours from Calais.

Within 200m of the house are the bakery, a butcher/charcuterie, general store, post office and a doctor.  There is a large Leclerc supermarket about 4 miles away.

The coast is about two miles away, the nearest points being Veulettes-sur-Mer and St-Valéry-en-Caux, which is a fishing port and a marina.  Both are a source of excellent fresh fish.

Cany-Barville is the nearest town, about 4 miles away, and between Vittefleur and Cany is an watersport/leisure park, the Lac de Caniel, which, in season, has tele-skiing (automated water-skiing), canoeing, sailboarding, a summer bobsleigh run, etc., plus a restaurant.  Bowling has now been introduced and may continue during the winter.  Cany itself has a sports centre and swimming pool.

Just outside Cany is the Chateau de Cany, one of the many lovely small chateaux which dot the area. The Chateau de Cany, and many of the others, are open to the public during the summer.

Cany-Barville and St-Valery have weekly markets which offer a wide range of local seasonal produce.

The Area: Haute-Normandie and Beyond

Normandy is famous for its food, particularly cream, cider and a wide choice of cheeses.  Being close to the coast, you will also find a huge choice of seafood - many different fish, as well as oysters, mussels and lobsters.

Places on the nearby coast worth visiting are Dieppe, Fécamp (the home of Bénédictine liqueur) and Étretat.  Further afield, beyond Le Havre and the dramatic Pont de Normandie, are the medieval port of Honfleur, Bayeux and its tapestry, and the D-Day landing beaches and associated war cemeteries.

Rouen, a fascinating old city, is about an hour away. It offers a wonderful medieval cathedral, a striking modern church dedicated to St Joan of Arc (burned at the stake in the city in 1431), good shops and weekend general and bric-a-brac markets.

Paris is about 2 hours drive.
Parc Astérix (north of Paris) takes about 2½ hours.
Disneyland Paris (formerly Eurodisney) about the same.
