The Village: Vittefleur and the Vallee de la Durdent
Vittefleur is a quiet village in the Pays de Caux, a very picturesque part of Normandy.  Situated on the River Durdent, its history goes back to medieval times when it was a port.  There are several mills along the course of the river, and locally there is extensive market gardening.  The countryside is ideal for walking, and trout fishing is available on the Durdent.  It is 40 minutes' drive from Dieppe, an hour from Le Havre, and 2½ hours from Calais.
Within 200m of the house are the bakery, a butcher/charcuterie, general store, post office and a doctor.  There is a large Leclerc supermarket about 4 miles away.
The coast is about two miles away, the nearest points being Veulettes-sur-Mer and St-Valéry-en-Caux, which is a fishing port and a marina.  Both are a source of excellent fresh fish.
Cany-Barville is the nearest town, about 4 miles away, and between Vittefleur and Cany is an watersport/leisure park, the Lac de Caniel, which, in season, has tele-skiing (automated water-skiing), canoeing, sailboarding, a summer bobsleigh run, etc., plus a restaurant.  Bowling has now been introduced and may continue during the winter.  Cany itself has a sports centre and swimming pool.
Just outside Cany is the Chateau de Cany, one of the many lovely small chateaux which dot the area. The Chateau de Cany, and many of the others, are open to the public during the summer.
Cany-Barville and St-Valery have weekly markets which offer a wide range of local seasonal produce.
